Grant dismisses link with Brazilian midfielder

Chelsea coach Avram Grant has dismissed speculation linking the Blues with a move for Brazilian midfielder Diego. Reports had suggested the Werder Bremen player was a summer transfer target for the Londoners, possibly putting Frank Lampard's future in jeopardy. But the Chelsea manager said: "Chelsea are linked with so many players it is impossible to comment every time, but sometimes it is necessary to protect the players we have. "I can say we have no interest in this player. He is a good player of course, but he is not being considered." Juventus have already admitted they will be targetting players 'of Lampard's class' this summer, leading to speculation Grant will be looking for a replacement. Lampard has 14 months remaining on his Blues contract but has long been linked with a move abroad. Juventus boss Claudio Ranieri signed Lampard from West Ham during his time in charge at Stamford Bridge. Ranieri is now looking to assemble a squad at Juventus capable of challenging for domestic and European success. Reports suggest Lampard could leave for as little as £6million in the summer if Chelsea cannot tie him to a new contract.
