Chelsea striker fails to agree loan move to Holland

NEC Nijmegen claim Chelsea striker Ben Sahar will be joining Portsmouth on loan next season. Dutch club NEC had been hoping to recruit the Israel international after agreeing a deal with Chelsea earlier this month. However, NEC have now revealed that Sahar will not be heading to the Eredivisie, and instead say he will be linking up with FA Cup winners Portsmouth. "We had been busy with Sahar for two months," NEC technical director Carlos Aalbers told the club's official website.

Financially impossible

"At one moment, it seemed so good that he would be here. "The boy had given a good feeling to NEC, but eventually we became entangled in all kinds of rules. "It has been a financially impossible case and we have had to draw a line under it." Sahar has made five substitute appearances during his Chelsea career and spent spells on loan at Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday last season.
