Andre Villas-Boas claims to be unsure where Chelsea stand regarding their interest in Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric.
The Blues are known to be keen on the Croatia international, with two offers having already been knocked back by their Premier League rivals.
The official line coming out of White Hart Lane is that Modric is not for sale, with the 25-year-old an important part of their plans for the future.
Harry Redknapp has, however, hinted that it may be in the best interests of the club to offload an unsettled player and use the money brought in to strengthen the squad.
Villas-Boas is reading little into the Spurs boss' comments, though, and remains coy when it comes to talk of a new £30million bid for Modric.
High amount
He said: "We have approached Tottenham before regarding the player.
"I don't know if it is viable or not and to what extent we can go regarding his price because we are speaking about a high amount and nothing else basically. End of story.
"Whatever comes from Harry's mind is his own opinion about the situation.
"I just have to study the rest of the market and hopefully find a solution for my team."
Villas-Boas revealed last week that he is still in the market for two more midfielders.
As well as Modric, the Portuguese tactician has also been linked with moves for Valencia's Juan Mata, Liverpool's Raul Meireles and Porto pair Joao Moutinho and Alvaro Pereira.
He is, however, keeping his cards close to his chest when it comes to possible targets.

Villas-Boas added: "That's a lot.
"Why don't we dwell on the names that already have been spoken about and never came?
"Neymar, (Samir) Nasri - how many names have been linked with Chelsea in the past and they didn't come?
"In our operations, in whatever we do or not in the market, we try to keep it as silent as possible.
"We have been studying all kinds of options."
