Arsenal are among a number of clubs interested in Portugal winger Gelson Martins, according to Sky sources.

Martins could be available on a free transfer because he is one of four Sporting Lisbon players who have moved to terminate their contracts.

The 23-year-old, who is part of Portugal's World Cup squad, was the second-choice target for Liverpool last summer behind Mo Salah.

Arsenal are looking to be busy in the transfer market as they look to build a squad capable of breaking back into the Champions League places under Arsene Wenger's successor Unai Emery.

They are in advanced talks to sign Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno and have agreed a deal for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos, with the transfer expected to be formally announced on July 1.

The Gunners are also in talks with Sampdoria for midfielder Lucas Torreira and an agreement is close, according to Sky Italy. They also hold an interest in Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri and Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu, Sky Sports News understands.
