Real striker rubbishes transfer rumours

Karim Benzema has sought to play down rumours linking him with an imminent move to Arsenal. Reports throughout the summer have suggested that the Real Madrid striker is a top target for the Gunners. Arsene Wenger is known to be an admirer of his fellow Frenchman and has been regularly linked with an approach for his services in the past. It has been claimed that this could be the year he makes his move, with Benzema facing an uncertain future in Spain. Despite being able to boast an impressive strike rate during his time with Real, he has struggled to hold down a regular role and suffered a falling-out with coach Jose Mourinho last season. He is, however, adamant that he has no desire to leave Santiago Bernabeu and is not actively looking for a move elsewhere.

Self-belief

With his stance having been cleared up, he hopes the speculation suggesting he is poised to make a move to England will be brought to an end. He insists Arsenal have never approached Real regarding a potential transfer, and he is keen to point out that he remains fully committed to Los Blancos. "My place is at this club," Benzema told L'Equipe. "I have never talked to My Wenger or anyone else. "I want to enjoy success here. I have found my self-belief. This season, I know we will win titles."
