Fabregas and Nasri not in squad for Premier League opener

Arsenal midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri have not been included in the squad for Saturday's Premier League opener at Newcastle United. The duo's future at Emirates Stadium is uncertain, with Fabregas wanted back at his former club Barcelona and Nasri a target for Manchester City. Arsene Wenger stated on Thursday evening that he expected a quick resolution to the pair's future and hoped a decision would be reached before the game at St James' Park. At his Friday morning press conference, the Gunners boss confirmed that both players will not be involved when Arsenal tackle Newcastle. Fabregas and Nasri are both reportedly keen to leave the North London club, but Wenger has insisted that he has not been disappointed by their attitude. He also confirmed there has been no further progress regarding their situation and is trying to focus on the trip to Newcastle.

Disruptive

"I expect nobody to leave," said Wenger. "The best thing for us one day before the championship starts is not to focus on possible transfers. "At the moment there is no news. If there is news I promise I will give it. I will decide what's best for the club. "My personal feelings are not important. What is important is the club and how well we do. "I have not been disappointed with their attitudes. They are professionals. I take nothing personally. "The transfer speculation is disruptive but that is not an excuse." Wenger added: "Fabregas is not in the squad and Nasri is certainly not, I will decide that today. "He went away for the national team, but he was sick and he's not completely recovered. "There are no other aspects why he would not be in the squad."
