Loan stars happy to be here, says Black Cats boss
Martin O'Neill has confirmed he has no plans for talks regarding a permanent move for Nicklas Bendtner before the end of the season.
Sunderland have the Arsenal forward - as well as Manchester City's Wayne Bridge and Wolfsburg's Sotirios Kyrgiakos - on loan at the Stadium of Light until the conclusion of this campaign.
But O'Neill insists now is not the time to discuss longer deals - despite Bendtner's impressive form that has seen him net four goals in his last five games.
"Nicklas has done very well for us recently and I'm very happy about that," O'Neill told the
Sunderland Echo.
"Hopefully he can keep it going and that will be (to) the benefit of everyone - himself and us.
"But we've not contacted Arsenal or Nicklas himself.
"We've not entered into any discussions at all - with any of the loan players. Let's just see what the end of the season brings.
"There's no point in trying to enter into talks anyway - you wouldn't be in any sort of position to do so.
Breath of fresh air
"As far as Wayne is concerned, it was pleasing that he was going to get involved with somebody's first team.
"He wasn't involved at all at Manchester City - he was training elsewhere - so it's like a breath of fresh air for him to come here and be involved in first-team games.
"And, in fairness, he's been involved in a lot of big matches, in terms of the pressure in trying to get a result in the league and, obviously, in the FA Cup.
"As for big Kyrgiakos, he wasn't playing at Wolfsburg and knows the scene here from his time at Liverpool.
"He came in and the Tuesday night game, against Everton - that was his third in a week from not having played much.
"So, from that viewpoint, it was asking a lot of him at a time when he probably wasn't expecting to have played.
"But we haven't discussed anything with anybody, and I don't think - certainly as far as Wayne or big Kyrgiakos are concerned - they haven't been coming in and asking me.
"I think they're just really pleased to be here, pleased to have helped us out and we'll see where we go with those on loan."
