Defender 'over the moon' to seal move

Manchester City have completed the signing of Joleon Lescott from Everton. Lescott has signed a five-year deal at Eastlands after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical. The move ends City's long pursuit of the England international with Lescott becoming Mark Hughes' seventh signing of the summer at big-spending City. Hughes was delighted to finally land the former Wolves man as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for honours "I am absolutely delighted to welcome Joleon to Manchester City," Hughes told the club's official website. "He is an England international who has proved his Premier League ability during his time at Everton "In bringing Joleon to the club I feel we have recruited a defender of the very highest quality. "He can play in a number of defensive positions, and I'm positive he will make a significant impact for us."

Over the moon

Lescott was relieved to seal the move to City after a long drawn-out process. "I'm over the moon to get the move completed, and I'm looking forward to training with the lads as I've not trained for a few days," said Lescott. "I know some of the lads already - I'm close friends with Shaun, we've played against each other since we were 16 or 17. The way this club is moving on, I'm really looking forward to being a part of that." Lescott is set to go straight into the squad for this weekend's game at Portsmouth, live on Sky Sports 1. The new signing is due to be unveiled on Wednesday and tune into Sky Sports News and skysports.com for all the news from the press conference at 11am.
