Marcus Bent charged with affray and possession of a Class A drug

Marcus Bent has been charged with affray and possession of a Class A drug.

The former Ipswich and Everton striker has been released on bail awaiting a court appearance on September 30.

"A 37-year-old man has been charged with affray and the possession of a Class A drug following an incident in Esher on Sunday (13 September)," read a statement released by Surrey Police.

"Police attended a residential property at around 9.30pm. Officers were threatened with weapons when at the location and a taser was deployed.

"Marcus Bent of Claremont Lane, Esher is currently on bail. He is due to appear at North Surrey Magistrates Court in Staines on Wednesday, 30 September 2015."

Bent began his career at Brentford before going on to play for 15 other clubs, making over 500 professional appearances in the process.

He last played for Indonesian Super League side Mitra Kukar but was released early from his contract in 2012.
