Harry Redknapp has revealed Tottenham could not finalise a deal for Gary Cahill, while he has dismissed reports of a shock swoop for Kaka.
Redknapp also dismisses Kaka speculation
Harry Redknapp has revealed that Tottenham tried to sign Gary Cahill from Bolton but could not finalise a deal, while he has dismissed reports of a shock swoop for Kaka.
Trotters centre-back Cahill has been linked with a move all summer and Spurs appeared to be the only suitors on deadline day after Arsenal ended their interest earlier in the week.
Redknapp admits that chairman Daniel Levy worked hard in an effort to push through a transfer, which was rated at 50-50 with just a few hours of the window remaining.
However, Spurs have been unsuccessful in their bid to land Cahill and Redknapp is disappointed not to have signed the defender.
Tottenham have pulled off a number of late moves in the past and reports surfaced about a possible deal for Real Madrid superstar Kaka but Redknapp told Sky Sports News
there was no truth in the rumours.
Asked about Kaka, he replied: "No, there's no big one. We tried to hook a big one but he got away."
Questioned on which player they had missed out on, Redknapp added: "We've been trying to sign Gary Cahill but we just couldn't make it happen. Daniel's been trying all day."
Asked if there would be a late surprise, he added: "No, not really. That was the one we were trying to do today but we just couldn't get it over the line."
