Poyet doubts Cummings bid

Gus Poyet says it is 'very unlikely' he will pursue his interest in Reading full-back Shaun Cummings.

Calderon decision cools Seagulls' interest in Reading full-back

Gus Poyet says it is 'very unlikely' he will pursue his interest in Reading full-back Shaun Cummings after Inigo Calderon committed his future to Brighton & Hove Albion. Calderon has shunned a move to Southampton in favour of signing a three-year contract at Brighton, with Poyet having lined up Cummings as a possible replacement. The right-back only joined Reading on a three-year deal from Chelsea last summer after enjoying loan spells under Roberto Di Matteo at MK Dons and West Brom. Cummings has not featured for Reading since December last year and the Championship club's pursuit of Andy Griffin could further impact on his first-team prospects.

Very unlikely

However, a move to Brighton for next season now appears to be off the agenda following Calderon's decision to stay with Poyet's side. "I know him well, but we have got Caldy (Calderon) now," the Brighton boss told The Argus. "I have spoken to Roberto Di Matteo plenty of times about him and he said get him. "We were ready to move on that. We were just waiting on Caldy's situation. "Shaun has played in the Championship and for him to come now is very unlikely, when he is not 100 per cent sure he is going to play because we have Caldy."
