Reading boss plays down promotion talk

Brian McDermott insists that talk of promotion is premature, despite Reading being the form side in the Championship. The Royals posted a thrilling 4-3 win at Nottingham Forest at the weekend, their sixth league victory on the bounce. It stretched their unbeaten league run to 10 games and took them into fifth in the table, four points off the automatic berths and six points ahead of Millwall in seventh. But with just six games to go in a tight promotion race, McDermott told skysports.com that the only thing he is focused on is Tuesday night's trip to rejuvenated Scunthorpe. "All I'm focused on is beating Scunthorpe to be honest and that is the only thing I've got on my mind," he said. "If we beat Scunthorpe then obviously we will be closer to where we would like to be, but I don't look much further ahead than that at this stage."

Morrison hailed

Meanwhile, McDermott has tipped young defender Sean Morrison, who arrived as a January signing from Swindon, as a bright prospect for the future. The 20-year-old was sent out on loan to Huddersfield last month and, despite having not made an appearance for the Terriers yet, McDermott believes the youngster will come back at the end of the season a better player. "Sean has gone out because he just needs to play. We brought him in as a young lad with bags of potential and he just needed to get some games under his belt," he said. "He is definitely one for the future and the experience he will gain at Huddersfield, especially with them going for promotion, will stand him in good stead for the future."
