Tottenham will assess Mousa Dembele after he was taken off with injury against Watford and head coach Mauricio Pochettino admits the player could face a spell on the sidelines.

The 28-year-old midfielder was a doubt for the 2-1 win at Vicarage Road after picking up a knock to his ankle in the win over Norwich.

He passed a fitness test and started the match on Monday but was substituted after 44 minutes, hobbling off the field as he was replaced by Christian Eriksen.

And Pochettino said: "We don't know the extent. We need to analyse and assess him tomorrow.

"We hope that it is not a big issue - maybe one week or two weeks."

Dembele has been in excellent form this season for Tottenham, who moved third and to within three points of the top of the Premier League.

But he is doubtful for their next league game on January 3 away to Everton and the following clash against Leicester.
