The Premier League has told Portsmouth they must pay Tottenham ₤1million for the failed transfer of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
Begovic joined Stoke on deadline day in January and an agreement had been reached with Tottenham that, if they failed to sign Begovic, Portsmouth would repay them ₤1m as part of a double deal that involved Younes Kaboul returning to White Hart Lane.
Sky Sports News understands Tottenham agreed to help Portsmouth, who needed an extra ₤1million to help pay off creditors, on the basis that the deal was likely to happen imminently and Begovic would join them as well as Kaboul.

Portsmouth's administrator Andrew Andronikou confirmed to
Sky Sports News on Friday that he had been told by the Premier League to pay Tottenham but that he would appeal their decision.
