Harry Redknapp is confident Spurs will not be selling reported Inter target Gareth Bale in the summer

Manager insists club can not afford to part with Welsh flyer

Harry Redknapp is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will not be selling Gareth Bale in the summer after the winger was linked with a move to Inter Milan. Reports had claimed that Inter were preparing a £40million bid for Bale after the Wales international terrorised the holders in the UEFA Champions League group phase. Bale scored a hat-trick in Spurs' 4-3 defeat at the San Siro before producing another impressive display in the memorable win over Inter at White Hart Lane. Inter have been quick to downplay suggestions that a bid will be forthcoming at the end of the season and Redknapp does not want to cash in on the 21-year-old. Redknapp insists Spurs can not afford to lose the former Southampton youngster and does not believe he would be for sale at any price.

Special player

"We won't be selling Gareth Bale in the summer, it's up to the chairman but I'd be very surprised if we were interested in selling him at any price," said Redknapp. "You have special players in your team and if we're going to be a top team you've got to keep your top players, you can't be selling Gareth Bale. "You've got three or four players who can make a difference and he's one of those players. "And, if you lose him, you can't replace him. Where are you going to replace him? You go and get one from here, one from there, another one. "When he gets the ball something happens, he can do something that no-one else can do. We can't afford to lose him."
