Marquez set to leave

Tottenham have been put on alert after Espanyol's Javi Marquez announced that he will leave the Spanish league outfit this summer. The 25-year-old midfielder was strongly linked with a move to White Hart Lane in recent seasons as Harry Redknapop had him watch on several occasions. Now Marquez wants to leave Espanyol after seeing his first-team chances severely limited this term and the North London club could make a move in the summer. "I have not been included in the squad in many games and I am ambitious and I want to play," the Blanc i Blau youth team product explained. "Nobody would like this and nobody would choose to renew their contract at a club where they hardly play. "I would like to be in a different position and I hope things can be sorted out as soon as possible. "My agent has been receiving enquiries. I decided to leave last week, but I do not feel I have been treated unfairly."

Two years ago Marquez was also linked with Inter and Real Madrid as his impressive performances drew admirers and he admits that clubs have been in touch again. "I do not know why I don't play. I am 100 per cent ready and I am training well," the playmaker continued. "But it is the coach that decides and all I can do is work hard and come in every day with the same desire and to keep going. "I am not a player that enjoys sitting at home on Sundays watching."
