Spurs keeper admits he was desperate to leave

Heurelho Gomes admits his situation at Tottenham Hotspur has changed following Harry Redknapp's departure after previously being 'desperate' to leave. The Brazilian goalkeeper was replaced as Spurs' first choice by Brad Friedel last season and he did not make a Premier League appearance during the 2011/12 campaign. He was linked with a return to former club PSV Eindhoven and the 31-year-old was ready to end his four-year spell at White Hart Lane. However, after Redknapp left his position as manager last week, Gomes is waiting to see what develops regarding his future. "It was a very hard season, I was desperate to leave," Gomes told Arena Sportv. "Now things have changed as the manager left last week."

Brazil aim

Gomes remains keen to force his way back into the Brazil national team, but accepts he needs to be playing regular first-team football to fulfil his aim. He added: "I want to return to the national team but I have to play first. "Once I'm playing again, my focus will be on returning to the national team. I know how good it is to be there. "Of course, they are rejuvenating the national team, but I'm only 31, which is a good age. I'll do very well this season."
