Hot prospect pens new deal at Ewood Park

Blackburn Rovers' rising star Phil Jones has put pen to paper on a new deal at the club. The home-grown defender has given the Premier League side a fillip by signing a one-year extension at Ewood Park. Jones, who is currently out with a long-term knee injury, has been one of the brightest prospects to come out of Lancashire and is now contracted to Blackburn until 2016. The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea were said to be monitoring the versatile 18-year-old but manager Steve Kean is delighted to see Jones commit himself to the Rovers cause.

Progress

Kean told the club's official website: "This is great news, especially on the back of so many other key players committing themselves to the club. "Phil has made incredible progress over the past year or so and his form, prior to his unfortunate injury setback, attracted a lot of attention. "It speaks volumes that he is happy to stay here for the long term and we are all absolutely delighted." England Under-21 international Jones joins Mark Bunn, Ryan Nelsen, Michel Salgado and Chris Samba as the latest player to ink a new contract at Blackburn.
