Villa striker in talks over possible loan move
Sky Sports News understands Stoke City are in talks with Aston Villa striker John Carew over a proposed loan move.
The Norway international has been tipped to leave Villa Park during the transfer window after falling out of favour with boss Gerard Houllier.
And the arrival of club-record signing Darren Bent for an £18million fee has pushed him further down the pecking order.
West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo had confirmed his interest in the former Valencia and Lyon forward.
But it now appears the Baggies could be pipped to his signature by Tony Pulis' Potters, who are keen to strengthen their own forward line.
Carew is reported to have held discussions with the Britannia Stadium side over a loan move which would run until the end the season.
The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and appears very unlikely to be offered fresh terms by Houllier.
Any move for Carew is only like to increase speculation that Tuncay and Ricardo Fuller could be set to leave Stoke this month, with Sunderland and Birmingham reported to be keen.
