Stoke join hunt for in-demand Villa hit-man

Sky Sports understands Aston Villa striker John Carew has passed his medical ahead of a proposed move to Stoke. It was revealed by Sky Sports News earlier on Thursday that the Norwegian was in talks over a loan move and the Potters have since confirmed he is on their wanted list. Carew is out of contract at the end of the season and it now seems that he is set to bring an end to his Villa Park career. West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo is also interested in the striker's services, but it appears that Stoke are on pole position for his signature. "He's a very good player and one we would be interested in," confirmed Stoke City assistant manager Dave Kemp. "To say we were targeting John Carew (is not necessarily true) but (Darren) Bent goes there so it might become an option and that is what happened. "He is a quality player and we would be interested in a player of that ilk. "He is a very experienced, top-level Premier League striker and he would bring much to the team so we would like to sign him - but so would a number of other clubs possibly. "There have been discussions but nothing has been finalised."
