Manchester United squad tops Premier League for transfer cost per point

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has led Manchester United to six successive league wins, but the club's haul of 44 points has come at a considerable price.

The club have spent £661m assembling their current squad, meaning each point they have won this season has cost more than £15m so far.

Reigning champions Manchester City have splashed a league-topping £748m on their current crop of players, but their title-challenging haul of 56 points averages as the second most expensive at £13.3m.

Perhaps surprisingly, Everton rank third with an average of £10.2m per point - more than Chelsea (£9.9m) and Merseyside rivals Liverpool (£9m) - while Fulham's average of £8.3m per point is more than Arsenal's £8m.

In contrast, Cardiff may be among the relegation places after a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle last time out, but each of their 19 points has averaged at a league-low £2.1m.

Watford (£3.9m) and Wolves (£2.8m) appear to be the best value for money, assuming seventh and eighth spot in the Premier League table - despite having squads totalling only £127.6m and £89.3m, respectively.

Burnley (£4.6m) Brighton (£4.8m) and Bournemouth (£5.1m) are also punching above their weight in gold, while Tottenham are the most economical top-six side with their £300m squad averaging at just £5.9m per point.
