Who stood out over a weekend where defences came out on top when Man Utd hosted Liverpool, while Burnley upset Spurs at Turf Moor?

Mario Melchiot and Chris Kirkland joined Rob Wotton in the Sky Sports News studio to give their verdict on the best players from the weekend's games.

With Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton and Brighton not in action because of the Carabao Cup final, there was an opportunity for others to step up to the plate and earn a coveted place in the Premier League team of the week.

There were plenty of options to pick from at the King Power Stadium thanks to Crystal Palace's 4-1 win over Leicester, while Watford put five past Cardiff in south Wales in a stunning victory on Friday night.

Arsenal also cruised to a comfortable victory over Southampton while Manchester United played out a chance-light stalemate with Liverpool at Old Trafford, so would any of them make the cut?

Mario Melchiot's team

"I love Luke Shaw as a player, and I think he's one of the best players in the league so I put him in. Also in defence, Shokdran Mustafi played really well, he had a lot of energy and I liked the way he attacked.

"Alisson's save he made against Jesse Lingard was at a crucial moment and really important for Liverpool in goal, and also from Liverpool the energy and power of Georginio Wijnaldum was great in midfield.

"When Crystal Palace got a penalty, everyone knew Luka Milivojevic was going to take it. Henrikh Mkhitaryan came back into the team and did well, getting a goal and setting up another, and I had to put in Gerard Deulofeu after his hat-trick against Cardiff.

"Ashley Barnes is in great form and showed it again against Tottenham and with Wilfried Zaha, even though I don't think he had the best game he's ever played, he scored and that's what he's been missing in his game.

"I feel like he can have an incredible game but not score, and that's why I've picked him."
