Manchester City have loaned midfielder Anthony Caceres to Melbourne City days after buying him from Central Coast Mariners.
The move means Caceres, 23, makes an immediate return to the A-League and is in line to play against Wellington Phoenix on Monday.
The move has caused some controversy in Australia, where Sydney FC chief executive Tony Pignata suggested a review of the rules should take place.
Pignata wrote on Twitter: "The loaning of Caceres to City is wrong."
He later added: "Just one point to add. What City have done is totally within the rules. I just think that current @FFA rules need to be looked at."
Manchester City and Melbourne City are both part of the City Football Group, a holding company owned by Sheikh Mansour.
The group also owns New York City FC and a minority share in Japanese club Yokohama Marinos.
