City midfielder open to Italian switch

Manchester City midfielder Elano admits he would be open to the possibility of a New Year switch to Lazio. The Brazilian has found himself out of favour at Eastlands in recent weeks, unable to force his way into Mark Hughes' plans on a regular basis. He had enjoyed an impressive debut season in England last term, but has failed to build on that bright start. As a result, Hughes is now prepared to offload the South American during the January transfer window. Serie A giants Lazio are believed to have expressed an interest in taking Elano to Italy, and the 27-year-old would welcome a move to Rome.

Willing

"I would not have any problem playing in Italy. And Lazio are a very good team," Elano told Corriere dello Sport. "I cannot say more, I have to speak to Manchester City. I will do it soon, then decide what to do. "I have heard it said that Lazio would be interested. I am pleased that such a big club is tracking me." Despite admitting he would be willing to head to the Italian capital, Elano has been quick to point out that no contact has been made with Lazio - or with Spanish outfit Espanyol, who are also thought to have shown an interest. He said: "At the moment there are lots of things being said, I have to stay focused. I prefer not (to add anything). I'm a Manchester City player and I have to give priority to my club. "I have not talked about my future with any team."
