Manager happy that everything remains in City's hands

Roberto Mancini does not believe it is important what is being said about the title race and insists everything is still in Manchester City's hands as they focus on trying to become Premier League champions. Mancini is used to engaging in mind games from his time in Italy but is trying to avoid them at the moment and concentrate on picking up three points against Sunderland on Saturday. Victory would lift City back to the top of the table, at least temporarily as Manchester United do not play until Monday against Blackburn. Sir Alex Ferguson's men have outperformed City over the past few weeks but both teams remain in control of their own destiny at the current time as there is still a potentially decisive Manchester derby to come on 30th April. Some United fans have already had T-shirts printed crowing at a record 20th title but Mancini remains confident of finishing first and is ignoring the bait. He said: "Our motivation should only be to take this championship.

"The other situations, outside the pitch, with supporters or what other people say, are not important. "It is clear that they have done very well for the last eight weeks but in eight games, anything can happen. "Everything is in our hands. If we win all the games and win the derby, we can win." Mancini was also reluctant to say too much about comments made earlier this week by City's football development executive Patrick Vieira. Vieira discussed his views on supposed favouritism from referees for Manchester United, before later stating that his remarks had been taken out of context. "Sometimes it can happen (big teams get decisions)," said Mancini. "It is normal everywhere. "But I don't want to talk about what other people think. Patrick is a clever man. He knows what he wants to say."
