Cottagers ace insists agents are needed

Fulham midfielder Jonathan Greening has defended the role of agents in the game after the yearly fees figure was released. A staggering £70.6million was paid out to agents by Premier League clubs from October 2008 to September 2009. The Cottagers only paid out £1.4m of that figure to agents while Manchester City forked out the most by coughing up £12.8m. The lofty figure has been criticised in some quarters, but Greening insists agents have a role to play in the game. The former West Brom man questions players who constantly chop and change advisors, however, he is pleased to have a long-term relationship with his agent.

Relationship

"They are needed. I'm lucky enough to have a really good relationship with mine," he told Sky Sports News. "I've been with mine for 12 years so it's more like he's looking after me. "If agents come and go with certain players then it can be tricky, but if you have a good relationship with your advisor it's good to have. "There are things in contracts that you don't think about so they are definitely needed. I think it's getting the right one. "I'm sure there are some dodgy ones out there, but I've been really lucky."
