Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has joined Sheffield United on a season-long loan deal.

Henderson has joined the Sky Bet Championship club after committing his long-term future to Manchester United until the summer of 2020.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town, playing 48 games in all competitions and saving a penalty in his final game for the club in the Sky Bet League One play-off final against Rotherham at Wembley.

"This is a big one for us, as Dean was certainly a target for rival clubs in our division," Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder told the club's official website.

"It is a position you've got to get right in terms of not only ability, but character too and we have no doubt following chats between myself, Dean and Darren (Ward), that we've got both.

"Dean is a confident boy, who has proved himself wherever he has been. He is positive and most importantly a winner and he will handle the pressure of coming here."

The Whitehaven-born goalkeeper began his career at Carlisle United, prior to joining the youth ranks at Old Trafford in 2011.
