Scott Hogan is due at Aston Villa for a medical after Brentford accepted a bid of around £9m rising to £12m, Sky sources say.
Villa emerged as favourites for 24-year-old Hogan's signature early on Deadline Day when it became clear West Ham's interest in the striker was over.
Rochdale are due a cut of their former player's transfer fee, understood to be 30 per cent, should the deal go through before Tuesday night's 11pm cut-off point.
West Ham boss Slaven Bilic confirmed on Tuesday the club had pulled out of the running to sign Hogan after opting not to match Brentford's valuation.
Andre Ayew will soon return from the Africa Cup of Nations, Andy Carroll is fit and scoring regularly, while Diafra Sakho is on his way back from injury.
And Bilic said: "I believe that we have really good strikers in our squad and that's why we won't have a Hogan deal.
"Definitely a good player, good age and scoring goals in the Championship. It's not a question of him, it's a question of what we've already got in the squad."
