Stoke boss Gary Rowett banned and fined after admitting FA misconduct charge

Gary Rowett was disappointed with his side's display against Leeds

Stoke boss Gary Rowett has been banned for one match after admitting an FA misconduct charge for abusive/improper language during the game against Birmingham.

Rowett was also handed a £2,000 fine for the incident that happened during the 1-0 home defeat to Birmingham on October 20.

The 44-year-old was sent to the stands by referee Roger East after Stoke had two penalty appeals turned down.

Stoke issued a statement on their website that read: "Gary Rowett will serve a one-match touchline ban with immediate effect after he admitted an FA misconduct charge and accepted the standard penalty.

"The Stoke City manager's language and/or behaviour in the 87th minute of the game against Birmingham City on Saturday [20 October 2018] was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper.

"He has also been fined £2,000.

"The club will not comment further on this subject."

Going up against his former club, Rowett protested his innocence after the game, which left Stoke 17th in the Sky Bet Championship.

"I felt there were two handballs in the box in all fairness," he said.

"The first one hits his hand but it is down by his side. The second one the player puts both hands out to the side.

"OK he doesn't move them to the ball but when you are two yards away you are purposely putting your hands out to block the ball.

"It hits his hands, it's a blatant penalty, no matter how many times you watch it and we don't get the break."
