Sadler signs new Blues deal

Birmingham full-back Matt Sadler has signed a new three-year contract.

Birmingham City full-back Mat Sadler has signed a new contract to stay at St Andrews until 2010.

Sadler has been given the three-year deal by Steve Bruce after impressing during Birmingham's promotion-winning campaign.

The youngster has overcome a serious ankle injury to establish himself as a fixture in Bruce's side at left-back.

He is happy to have committed his future to Birmingham and is hoping to play a key role in the Premier League next season.

"It's a happy day for me and I am really pleased because in this football climate at the moment you can never really be sure where your next contract is coming from," Sadler told the club's official website.

"To get my future secured now for a good amount of years is great, so there is nothing for me to worry about.

"I am looking forward to next season. I am more than confident that, given a chance, I will be able to play well in the Premier League and I am looking forward to that challenge.

"There is a lot to prove for some of the lads and it's a good stage on which to do that."
