Luccin tipped to join from Atletico
Steve Bruce is close to signing a new midfielder, with Peter Luccin expected to pitch up at Birmingham City.
After missing out on Mathieu Flamini, and pulling out of a deal for Hossam Ghaly, Bruce remains keen to strengthen his midfield.
A loan deal for Honduras international Wilson Palacios is in the pipeline, but the Birmingham boss is also chasing Atletico Madrid's Luccin.
After three seasons with Atletico, Luccin looks poised for a move to the Premier League, with Bruce confirming a transfer is near to completion.
"We are close to one or two things. I hope by Monday we will have something done," said Bruce
"We went for two midfielders in the summer. We chased Flamini for weeks and then he decided to stay with Arsenal.
"The other one was Ghaly and we all know what happened with him.
"The guy we hope to bring in we hope will all be done and dusted by Monday. The player we are after has got a really good pedigree.
"We have agreed his wages, a fee and the length of contract. I'd love to have a young British midfielder, but you can't get them for whatever reason."
