Premier League results and round-up: Manchester United beaten at West Ham, Liverpool strike late at Chelsea

Man City head back to summit, Liverpool drop first points

Last Updated: 30/09/18 3:05pm

West Ham turned up the heat on Jose Mourinho and a late equaliser kept Liverpool unbeaten - here's what happened in Saturday's games.

After their midweek home penalty shoot-out defeat by Derby in the Carabao Cup, Manchester United once again failed to produce the required performance and lost 3-1 at the London Stadium.

Hosts West Ham went in front after just five minutes through Felipe Anderson, the Brazilian's first goal since his big-money summer transfer from Lazio.

An own goal from United defender Victor Lindelof doubled West Ham's lead just before half-time.

However, West Ham swiftly restored their two-goal advantage through Marko Arnautovic's finish after 74 minutes as United equalled their worst start to a Premier League season.

Liverpool came from behind to rescue a late point at Chelsea thanks to Daniel Sturridge's 89th-minute equaliser.

The Blues went ahead through Eden Hazard's strike before half-time, with Liverpool falling behind for the first time this season.

Xherdan Shaqiri missed a glorious chance to level after the break, but it was substitute Sturridge who took the plaudits with a curling wondergoal in the final seconds to keep Jurgen Klopp's side unbeaten.

Manchester City pressed their claims for a title defence with a 2-0 home win over Brighton.

Raheem Sterling put the home side ahead after 29 minutes following a swift counter-attack, with Sergio Aguero wrapping up the points after 65 minutes.

England captain Harry Kane scored twice as Tottenham won 2-0 at struggling Huddersfield.

Kane headed the visitors in front after 25 minutes and added a second from the penalty spot after Florent Hadergjonaj was ruled to have pushed down Danny Rose.

Huddersfield forward Laurent Depoitre hit the crossbar just before the break, but the Terriers could not mount a recovery and remain bottom.

Arsenal left it late to maintain their winning run with a 2-0 victory over Watford at Emirates Stadium.

They made the breakthrough with nine minutes left when Craig Cathcart turned a cross from substitute Alex Iwobi into his own net.

Mesut Ozil slotted home a second just two minutes later to secure a seventh straight win in all competitions for Unai Emery's improving side.

Wolves' impressive return to the Premier League continued with a 2-0 home win over Southampton.

Adama Traore set up fellow substitute Ivan Cavaleiro, who had just come on, to break the deadlock with 11 minutes left.

Jonny wrapped things up with a late second from close range.

Everton produced a strong second half to win 3-0 at Fulham with two goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson.

After Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon hit the crossbar, Everton midfielder Sigurdsson then also struck the woodwork with a penalty in the 52nd minute.

The Icelander, though, was on target four minutes later with a curling left-footed effort, before substitute Cenk Tosun headed in a second after 66 minutes.

Sigurdsson added Everton's third after 89 minutes.

Newcastle's wait for a victory goes on after Leicester won 2-0 at St James' Park.

The Foxes went in front on the half-hour through a penalty from Jamie Vardy, with Harry Maguire then heading in from a corner after 72 minutes.
