Walsall v Colchester preview

Image: Rowlands: Missing for the U's

Team news for Tuesday evening's League One clash between Walsall and Colchester at the Banks's Stadium.

Walsall will again assess Richard Taundry ahead of the match. The right-back pencilled himself in to return from a hamstring injury in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Stevenage but failed to make it and will now look to prove his fitness in time to face the U's. It also remains to be seen whether midfielder Adam Chambers returns from his heel infection but striker Will Grigg (hamstring) remains sidelined. Manager Dean Smith has no fresh injury or suspension concerns to contend with as the Saddlers aim to make the most of their game in hand over their relegation rivals. Walsall, one point adrift of safety, have lost just one of their last nine and come up against a play-off-chasing Colchester side unbeaten in the same period albeit having drawn seven of those. Meanwhile, Martin Rowlands is set to miss out for Colchester. The experienced midfielder returned at the weekend having missed the last three matches with a groin injury, but duly suffered a recurrence of the problem and was forced off just minutes after putting the U's one-nil ahead against Carlisle with a superb goal. Carlisle levelled to ensure Colchester had to settle for a share of the spoils but a fifth successive draw, which extends their unbeaten run to nine games, still leaves the Essex club within six points of the play-offs. Andy Bond will come back in for Rowlands having replaced him during his initial spell on the sidelines but manager John Ward is not expected to have any other concerns. Gavin Massey replaced Kayode Odejayi in attack on Saturday and Ward must decide who to go with at the Banks's Stadium, with loanee Freddie Sears also pressing his claims for a start.
