Solid City

All eyes may have been on new Nottingham Forest boss Martin O'Neill at the City Ground on Saturday, but it was visitors Bristol City who took all three points to make it four successive Championship wins.

Throughout this season the Robins have been one of the best defensive units in the Championship, with only Middlesbrough (20) conceding fewer goals overall than their total of 29 and only two sides bettering their 10 clean sheets (Boro 13, Leeds 11).

A more in-depth look reveals that much of City's defensive success is because of their ability to limit opponents' opportunities to outside the penalty area. Only Sheffield United (49.8%) and Middlesbrough (52.5%) have faced a lower percentage of shots from inside their own box (Bristol City are 53.7%).

Jarrod's joy

Hull's Jarrod Bowen scored for the fifth successive Championship game as Hull drew 2-2 at Aston Villa this weekend. The 22-year-old forward has now scored six goals in his last four appearances for The Tigers and has been a key man in his side's revival in recent months.

Bowen has been involved in more goals than any other Championship player since the start of December (10 goals, 2 assists), and across all four divisions during the same period only Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has been involved in more (9 goals, 4 assists).

Luton on the up

Jones may have departed Kenilworth Road for Stoke this month but Luton's promotion charge is showing no signs of slowing down under interim manager Mick Harford.

Saturday's 4-0 win against Peterborough in League One was their 15th league game without defeat, the best current run in all four English divisions ahead of Bristol City and Hull (both 10 games).
