On a day of torrential rain up and down the country, Port Vale were scuppered by some soggy ground in their defeat by Bury.

Early on at Gigg Lane, Ben Purkiss' backpass to goalkeeper Jak Alnwick stuck in the ground, allowing the ball to be squared for James Vaughan, who slotted home for 1-0.

Vaughan grabbed another, adding to Jacob Mellis and Hallam Hope's goals for a 4-1 victory for the hosts, who moved up to ninth in League One.

On a wet Saturday, Bristol v Walsall was postponed in League One, while Newport v Barnet fell to the weather in League Two.
