Johnson puts troubles behind him

Yeovil manager Gary Johnson played down any differences between him and the club's directors as his side beat Bradford 3-1.

A fall out with chairman John Fry emerged when it was reported Johnson did not get the board's backing to make two Premier League loan signings before the transfer window closed last Monday. Speculation mounted about Johnson's future when he turned up only 15 minutes before Yeovil's midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy match against Portsmouth. But Johnson said: "It has been a disappointing week as regards transfers, but we have not fallen out. "The only problem was that of communication on the final day of the transfer window. "I have had a meeting with the chairman and no-one is going to be any less passionate about the football club, but we will have that discussion about how we move one." Johnson was delighted with Yeovil's win. Two goals from defender Aaron Martin, a summer signing from Birmingham, earned them a 2-1 half-time lead and another close season signing, midfielder Ajay Leitch-Smith, put the result beyond doubt with a third goal in the second half. Johnson said: "We created good chances on the transition and the boys worked unbelievably hard. "That was the performance that enables the players to see what we are trying to do for them. "They understand that. It was a good day for us in our transition. The players have been there, done it and produced it. "This is a new group of players. We haven't got a problem with coming down from the Championship because the boys here are good competitors. "The new boys have got to learn about our management style and our relentlessness. "They have got to show that potent football desire and passion and that's what they did. They were all man of the matches. "We have a long history at Yeovil so they come here to learn the Yeovil way." Bradford manager Phil Parkinson could not hide his disappointment. He said: "The standards we have set this season - we were well below that. "We didn't have the energy or spark in our play to mount a real challenge. "It was a shame because we have had a fantastic start to the season. "We were not sharp in possession and our decision making on the ball was ponderous. "We got a goal back, but we couldn't respond to that because we didn't have the sharpness and energy in our play to mount a challenge. "Yeovil were the better team in both boxes." Bradford have had a hectic start to the season with midweek games every week and Parkinson added: "It looked like a game too far with the run we have had. "Even the lads we rested in the JPT at Oldham on Tuesday lacked sharpness, but we will re-group for our next home game against Swindon next Saturday. "We produced an almighty effort at Rochdale last week after beating Leeds during the week before, but we were not any way near how we can play in this, which is disappointing, but we will dust ourselves down and re-group for the next game." The visitors began well and deservedly went in front in the eighth minute when Sam Foley's left-wing corner was headed high into the net from close range by Martin, who doubled his side's lead after 22 minutes with a headed goal at the far post from Foley's free-kick. Bradford pulled a goal back in the 26th minute when Alan Sheehan's left-wing corner found Rory McArdle unmarked and the defender scored with a header. But Yeovil continued to be the more dangerous side, restricting Bradford to precious few chances and the visitors scored a third goal after 73 minutes. Midfielder Jack Price, on loan from Wolves, cut the ball back from the left into the path of Leitch-Smith, who scored with a smart left-footed shot into the top corner.
