Aussie in Ashton Gate talks

Bristol City manager Brian Tinnion is in talks with goalkeeper Michael Turnbull.

Bristol City manager Brian Tinnion is in talks with Australian international goalkeeper Michael Turnbull.

The Rochedale Rovers and Marconi Stallions custodian is currently plying his trade in Belgium with Standard Liege.

The 24-year-old (pictured) played together with current City midfielder Luke Wilkshire in Australia's Under-23 Olympic squad and has attracted the interest of clubs from Australia's A-League for their inaugural season next month.

Tinnion is keen to find suitable cover for Robins number one Steve Phillips, having seen Aston Villa custodian Wayne Henderson opt for a trial at Queens Park Rangers after training this pre-season at Ashton Gate.

"We're speaking to him (Turnbull) at the moment and it's another option," Tinnion told the club's official website.

"We've been looking for a long time now and there aren't too many good keepers about.

"But at least we've got the rest of the squad sorted out. That's the main thing and it may even need a loan deal to secure the services of a keeper."

The West Country club are also in talks Scottish keeper Colin Stewart following the former Kilmarnock, Queen's Park and Ross County man's arrival on trial recently.
