Huddersfield Town have triggered a clause to sign Swiss international Florent Hadergjonaj on a permanent contract from FC Ingolstadt 04.

The 23-year-old defender joined Huddersfield on a season-long loan last August but the Terriers have paid an undisclosed fee to make the move permanent.

Hadergjonaj, who has made 19 appearances for Huddersfield, will officially join on a three-year deal this summer and the club have the option of extending that to a fourth season.

"We knew that Flo would offer great competition for the right-back position and I think his first seven months at Huddersfield Town have shown why he is so highly-rated in Germany," said head coach David Wagner.

"As we expected, his characteristics have been perfect for our style of play and his performances have really improved game by game for us. He is also a great guy who has fitted into our dressing room perfectly.

"We must also remember that he is only 23 years old, so he has plenty of space to improve further too."

Hadergjonaj is a product of the Young Boys of Bern youth system. He made 88 senior appearances for the club before joining FC Ingolstadt 04 in 2016 in a reported £2m deal.

Hadergjonaj has won one cap for Switzerland, which came in a friendly against Belarus last June.
