Brighton appeal Glenn Murray red card against Sheffield Wednesday

Brighton have confirmed they will appeal the red card shown to striker Glenn Murray during Friday’s 2-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday.

Murray was the first of three players to be dismissed in a feisty encounter at the AMEX Stadium, with the on-loan Bournemouth player adjudged to have deliberately handled the ball in the penalty area.

Wednesday striker Fernando Forestieri saw the subsequent spot-kick saved by goalkeeper David Stockdale, who then kept out his follow-up effort with a stunning save to his left.

Forestieri's team-mates Steven Fletcher and Sam Hutchinson were also sent off in the closing stages.

Anthony Knockaert scored both of Albion's goals as they climbed above Newcastle to go top of the Sky Bet Championship.

Regarding Murray's red card, Brighton released a statement on their Twitter account: "Brighton will appeal Glenn Murray's red card against Sheffield Wednesday. The appeal will be heard by the FA on Monday."
