Brighton have signed Czech U21 right-back Ales Mateju from Viktoria Plzen for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old has penned a three-year deal at the Amex Stadium and becomes Brighton's seventh signing of the summer.
Mateju joined Plzen in 2015 and helped them win the Czech First League title during his first season at the club.
"Well, he's a young one and it gives us an opportunity to have a look at him," manager Chris Hughton told Sky Sports News.
"For a young one, he's got a good pedigree. He's in a position where we have two players that are two very, very good players, but the other side of 30.
"So, it's really a development one and we'll make a decision over the next couple weeks on whether we keep him amongst the first team or we send him out on loan."
Mateju began his professional career at hometown club FK Pribram and spent the 2013/14 campaign on loan at PSV Eindhoven, featuring for their U19s team.
