Jack Lester scored his first goal of the season but Morecambe hit back with a penalty to get a deserved 1-1 draw at Chesterfield.
Morecambe almost took the lead inside 20 seconds when Phil Jevons was denied by Tommy Lee, but former Chesterfield keeper Barry Roche was tested by 20-yard drives from Mark Allott and Lester.
Roche blocked a close-range shot from Lester early in the second half and Wade Small fired just wide 60 seconds after coming on for his Chesterfield debut.
But Morecambe were unlucky when Jevons' 25-yard strike came back off the crossbar before Roche made another great save to foil Jamie Lowry.
Chesterfield broke the deadlock in the 75th minute when Small crossed and Drew Talbot's shot hit Lester on the shoulder and flew into the net.
But the visitors responded three minutes later when referee David Webb adjudged Ian Breckin had blocked a cross with his hand and Jevons sent Lee the wrong way with the spot-kick.
