Thomas Frank ready to drive Brentford forward in 'perfect' head coach job

Thomas Frank says Brentford is the "perfect" head coach job and believes he can not only continue the club's progression but drive it harder.

The Dane was promoted from assistant to take over from Dean Smith following his switch to Aston Villa, and he feels this continuity within the club's structure can bring success this season.

The Bees are seventh in the Championship, having lost just twice in their opening 12 games, and they could move into the top six with victory against Bristol City in Frank's first game in charge on Saturday.

"This is the perfect head coach job. I am in a very privileged position because I know the staff, every player, the sporting directors, the owner, and they know me," he said.

"The philosophy and the strategy are aligned and we know where we want to go. Now it's up to me to push it forward.

Brentford's Co-Director of Football Rasmus Ankerson says the club will look to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, under new head coach Thomas Frank.

"I think one of our biggest strengths is we have that clear strategy. The second thing, that's pretty rare in football, is that the people in charge are taking calm, not emotional, good decisions. That is very difficult to do in football.

"Because we have that cleverness and calmness, we have a top opportunity to push forward and go to the next level as soon as possible. If every department here does a bit extra every day it will provide the opportunity to do that."

Frank was previously head coach at Brondby and twice took them to Europa League qualifiers, but is otherwise a relative newcomer to the top job.

He took a central role in implementing Brentford's current way of playing under Smith, however, and he is conscious of how he must adapt to now being the ultimate decision-maker.

"I like to dominate on the ball and be very aggressive off it," he said. "That's what we've been doing over the last three years. I would like to push even harder if we can.

"I'm very structured and detailed in the way I see training and then trying to get it out there when we're playing. I will continue the detail and try to add a little bit more.

"I will be the same in the way I approach people. That's who I am. As head coach you take a lot of decisions, that's one massive difference. You pick the team. The big difference is I will be taking all the decisions."
