Edwards scores brace before Hunter bags consolation

Phil Edwards' second half brace condemned Morecambe to a 2-1 defeat - their first in nine games - and gave Accrington the local bragging rights in the Lancashire derby. Accrington secured their fourth successive League Two win with a convincing performance against Sammy McIlroy's in-form side. Edwards was Stanley's hero and he opened the scoring in the 56th minute with a close range header from Bobby Grant's left wing cross. He doubled the advantage six minutes later courtesy of a controversial penalty when Andy Parrish was adjudged to have fouled Grant. The Shrimps hit back with 24 minutes to go when Garry Hunter's volley beat Dean Bouzanis. Hunter then went inches wide with a similar effort and home defender Will Haining hit the post with a looping header. Wayne Curtis missed a golden chance to level the scores when he missed an open goal from an acute angle with eight minutes to go.
