Ephraim downs Cambridge

Wycombe consolidated their promotion push by climbing to second with a 1-0 win at 10-man Cambridge.

Hogan Ephraim grabbed the winner in the 53rd minute, curling a free-kick from a wide position which eluded everyone and found its way into the far corner of Chris Dunn's net. Cambridge's afternoon deteriorated further moments later when midfielder Cameron McGeehan was sent off for clashing with goalkeeper Matt Ingram while the sides prepared for a corner. When the corner was taken Tom Champion was wrestled to the ground but the referee took no action. In the first half Wycombe's Aaron Holloway twice headed off target from left-wing deliveries, while Joe Jacobson almost scored direct from a corner. Cambridge's Robbie Simpson hit the outside of Ingram's post, while on his full debut Gearoid Morrissey tested the Wycombe keeper from outside the box. With 20 minutes left Jordan Slew fired wide moments after coming on for his U's debut.
