David Prutton's Sky Bet EFL predictions

Last Updated: 12/10/18 11:20am

David Prutton returns with his Sky Bet EFL predictions ahead of the weekend fixtures, but who is he tipping for victory?

Barnsley v Luton, Saturday 12pm - Live on Sky Sports Football

Barnsley are as good as anyone in Sky Bet League One at their very best. The only issue has been hitting those heights consistently this season, and they haven't won back-to-back since their first two games in August.

Luton haven't played at this level for a decade but you wouldn't know it from the way they have adjusted back to the third tier. There should be goals in this one but I can't split the two. Score draw.

Prutton predicts: 2-2 (12/1 with Sky Bet)

AFC Wimbledon v Portsmouth, Saturday 3pm

AFC Wimbledon have had a difficult run of late, winning just two of their last nine games. They are not losing heavily by any means but are really struggling for goals. No side in League One has scored fewer.

Portsmouth were unbeaten until last week, when they lost at home to a Gillingham side that were in the relegation zone. It just goes to show how tough it is to predict these games! That being said, I'm backing Pompey to bounce back here.

Prutton predicts: 0-2 (10/1 with Sky Bet)

Oxford v Plymouth, Saturday 3pm

This is a big, big game at the bottom of League One. Oxford are at the foot of the table and Plymouth are just a point and a place above them, with both already starting to get cut adrift of the sides above them.

Oxford are in a dreadful run of form while Plymouth finally picked up their first win of the season last week. Whether they can repeat last season's incredible run to almost reach the play-offs remains to be seen, but I fancy them to at least get another win here.

Prutton predicts: 1-2 (12/1 with Sky Bet)

Merson's Super 6 predictions

Accrington Stanley 2-0 Bradford
AFC Wimbledon 0-2 Portsmouth
Coventry 2-0 Wycombe
Fleetwood Town 1-0 Shrewsbury
Burton Albion 2-1 Bristol Rovers
Gillingham 2-1 Southend

Paul Merson has also provided his predictions for this weekend's Super 6 games.

Scunthorpe v Peterborough, Saturday 3pm

The stats suggest there should be goals in this one! Scunthorpe have scored more goals than any side outside the top four and have conceded more than any other side in the top half of the table. Peterborough, meanwhile, have scored the most in the division and conceded more than any side in the top half, apart from Scunthorpe.

The Posh were given an absolute hiding at home by Barnsley last week while Stuart McCall lost his first game with Scunthorpe in the league last weekend, so both managers will be looking for a big response from their side. Away win for me, though.

Prutton predicts: 1-3 (18/1 with Sky Bet)

Cambridge v MK Dons, Saturday 3pm

Cambridge are in wretched form in Sky Bet League Two. They have picked up just two wins all season and a point from their last six games. Now they find themselves in the bottom two heading into the weekend.

MK Dons have struggled for a bit of consistency so far under Paul Tisdale but they have proven to be incredibly tough to beat, with their only loss so far coming at Lincoln. They have won their last two now and will hope to keep that momentum going, which I think they will do here.

Prutton predicts: 0-3 (22/1 with Sky Bet)

Exeter v Swindon, Saturday 3pm

Exeter are leading the chasing pack at the moment and have had a great start to the season under Matt Taylor. They are unbeaten in six games in League Two and really look well-placed to push for automatic promotion again.

Swindon will have been disappointed with the way they have started the season. They have had some decent results and haven't lost too many games, but they are yet to win back-to-back games so far and that's why they find themselves in the middle of the table. Home win.

Prutton predicts: 2-1 (8/1 with Sky Bet)

Newport v Stevenage, Saturday 3pm

Michael Flynn has done an exceptional job with Newport. They were among the favourites for relegation at the start of the season but they find themselves in the automatic-promotion spots heading into the weekend.

Stevenage have also been a bit of a surprise package so far and will provide a real challenge to County. This is a tough game to call so I am going to sit firmly on the fence and go for a draw.

Prutton predicts: 1-1 (5/1 with Sky Bet)

Port Vale v Lincoln, Saturday 3pm

Port Vale have lost their last two games which has seen them slip into the bottom half of the table, and they now come up against the toughest challenge in League Two.

Lincoln have lost twice so far this season but on both occasions they have bounced back immediately with a victory, and that is why they find themselves four points clear at the top of the table. I reckon there will be a few goals in this one but the Imps will sneak another win.

Prutton predicts: 2-3 (33/1 with Sky Bet)
