Done fires treble to sink Shots

Matty Done's hat-trick saw off Aldershot as Rochdale enjoyed a 4-1 win in their FA Cup second-round replay on Tuesday.

After holding Keith Hill's League One promotion hopefuls to a goalless draw at the Recreation Ground nine days earlier, the Shots proved tough opponents once again and the final scoreline was harsh on Andy Scott's men. The tie was heading for extra-time when the visitors levelled in the 71st minute through substitute Dan Fitchett. But late goals from Peter Vincenti and Done - his second and third of the night - secured the win for Dale and a home tie against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round. The home side were marginally better in the first half and opened the scoring in the 31st minute, Done applying a simple finish from close range after incisive approach play from Rhys Bennett and Joe Rafferty. Jordan Roberts dinked Aldershot's best chance of the opening 45 minutes over Dale goalkeeper Conrad Logan but wide of the target. Still, the Shots deservedly levelled the game midway through the second half, Fitchett glancing Sam Hatton's corner into the net. But Dale quickly regained the lead, Peter Vincenti meeting Done's delivery to slam a firm half volley home at the back post. Done sealed the win with a fine individual goal nine minutes from time and then completed his hat-trick when he turned in Matt Lund's cross.
