Notts County have sacked manager Harry Kewell after less than three months in charge.

Kewell, who replaced Kevin Nolan at the end of August, won just three of his 14 matches in charge of the League Two club.

County - who made the League Two play-off semi-finals last season - are currently third from bottom with 14 points.

County owner and chairman Alan Hardy said: "Harry's passion and commitment as a coach is unquestionable.

"I enjoyed seeing first-hand his love for the job and it gives me absolutely no pleasure to take that away from him.

"Unfortunately, however, things quite simply were not working out for him here at Meadow Lane.

"Results have not been good enough and performance levels are a continuing concern. We see no reason to continue with something we don't think can work.

"Harry leaves with our best wishes for the future and our search for a new manager begins immediately."

In a statement released later on Tuesday, Kewell admitted his disappointment at not being afforded more time to turn around County's fortunes.

"Firstly I would like to thank the fans for welcoming me to the club," he said. "Everyone behind the scenes, the players and coaching staff.

"I would also like to thank Alan Hardy for the opportunity. As you can imagine I'm very frustrated to leave after 73 days and 14 games in charge. I was excited by the opportunity of rebuilding a great football club with a proud history but unfortunately I was unable to see the project through.

"I wish the club and everyone involved all the best."

Assistant manager Warren Feeney and first-team analyst Paul Murphy have also left the club - first-team coach Steve Chettle will take temporary charge of first-team affairs.

Notts County hope to make an appointment before Saturday's home game with Cheltenham Town.
