Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie has signed a new three-year contract with the club.

Christie has been in impressive form for Brendan Rodgers' side this season, playing 15 times and scoring three goals in his last three matches.

Those goals included a superb strike in the 3-0 Scottish League Cup semi-final win over Hearts at Murrayfield, while he also featured in the Hoops' 2-1 win over RB Leipzig last week in the Europa League.

Christie joined Celtic in 2015 from Inverness but remained on loan at the Caledonian Stadium before eventually making his Celtic debut against St Johnstone in January 2016.

He spent the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign and the whole of last season at Aberdeen and after impressing at Pittodrie, he has been given the opportunity to impress at Celtic Park.

Christie has also been capped three times by Scotland, with his last international appearance coming in the 1-0 friendly defeat to Mexico in June.

"I spoke to the manager early last week and he let me know that he definitely saw a path for me at this club and that's all I really needed to know," said Christie.

Injuries to Hoops skipper Scott Brown and France U21 midfielder Olivier Ntcham gave Christie his chance to impress and he believes scoring against Hearts in the Scottish League Cup semi-final win proved to be the catalyst for his introduction into the team.

"I think it helped scoring the goal and making a proper impact," he added.

"Before that, I'd come off the bench a few times or started without really putting my stamp on the game."

He joins fellow midfielder Olivier Ntcham in committing his future to the club, after the Frenchman signed a new contract last week which will keep him at Parkhead until at least the summer of 2022.
