Charles Green has lost his attempt to have Rangers pay the costs of his defence against criminal proceedings he faces.
The former Ibrox chief executive and a number of other figures face trial next year over the alleged fraudulent acquisition of the club's assets in the summer of 2012.
Green had claimed his contract during his time with the club covered any reasonable future legal costs and expenses which arose from his employment.
Rangers disputed his claim and it was dismissed on Thursday morning by Lord Docherty in the Court of Session.
He decided the clause Green's representatives had argued worked in their client's favour did not oblige Rangers to pay his fees.
A written explanation of the ruling has been issued to all parties and Green's legal team are entitled to appeal if they wish.
The written reasons will not be published until after criminal proceedings against Green and others - including former owner Craig Whyte - have been concluded.
