Neil Lennon says his side are keen to bring in strikers during the January transfer window

Neil Lennon says Hibernian will look to bring in two strikers this month, while admitting Ryan Gauld could sign permanently with the club.

The Scottish Premiership side are currently in Dubai for a warm-weather training camp, and Lennon outlined his ambitions for the January transfer window to Sky Sports News.

"We want to bring in strikers, if we can bring two in then great. But we're hoping to at least bring one in just to add to what we have here," he said.

"At times it's been a bit flat and we need that extra bit of competition and motivation for them all.

When asked what kind of message this sent to his current forwards, Lennon replied: "Must be better. You know you can do better and I know you can do better.

"But we want more competition in that area and we want more goals in that area."

Lennon also revealed Gauld's imminent loan deal with the club could well become a permanent agreement.

"Possibility of it being beyond that, obviously if it suits both parties... He's a player that we've liked for a long, long time," said Lennon.

"He was a great player at Dundee United. He's gone abroad and tried a different culture I think that's really impressive for a young player to do that, sometimes I wish I'd done that during my career but I think he's physically better now and technically he's an excellent player, he will bring that creativity that we've been missing."

League leaders Celtic and Rangers have already begun to make strides in the January window, though Lennon feels his side can still compete and the necessary backing will be given to him.

"Rangers are really putting statements out. It's impossible for us to try and match that financially. It's important we add to what we already have and improve," said Lennon.

"Yeah [backing will be given], the board have been very good to me. They know what's required and I know what's required."
